Community Service Restitution

The San Antonio Food Bank offers you the ability to fulfill your court-mandated community service while making a positive impact in the community. Follow the three step process outlined below to get started.

Apply

If this is your first time fulfilling court-mandated community service hours at the San Antonio Food Bank, you will need to submit a volunteer application form.

Step 3

Register

Upon completing your application you will receive a confirmation email that will allow you to register for one of the volunteer shifts listed below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service will be accepted on a case by case basis. Individuals convicted of certain serious offenses will not be accepted to volunteer due to potential safety risks for other volunteers and staff.

We do accept monetary donations in place of completing community service hours. However, there must be prior approval from the court, private attorney or probation services. 

No. The San Antonio Food Bank does not accept food donations in lieu of completing community service hours.

We accept cash or money orders for community service donations. Credit cards, debit cards and checks are NOT accepted. Cash will need to be brought in the exact amount owed (we do not have change).

Community service payments are non-refundable.

If the court, probation office, or attorney does not assign a monetary value to each community service hour the San Antonio Food Bank will use an exchange rate of $8 for every 1 hour.

You are required to bring your client referral form that reflects the following:

  • Your name
  • Case or SID #
  • Name of probation officer
  • Approved monetary value per community service hour

*If no dollar amount is noted on referral, the rate of $8 for every 1 hour will apply.

You may designate any person to make the donation on your behalf so long as the designated person has the appropriate case number or SID number.

The San Antonio Food Bank is not responsible for any financial arrangements made between you and your designated person.

Yes. The SAFB provides a stamped receipt for all money donated in lieu of completing court ordered community service.

Duplicate receipts are only provided when requested directly from the probation office, judge, court or attorney.
