Donor Highlight

Alamo Radio Control Society

September 2025

The Alamo Radio Control Society (ARCS) is proving that passion for flying can also help lift up a community. In August, the club donated 359 pounds of food to the San Antonio Food Bank, collected during their monthly food drive. This donation was earmarked to help families impacted by the devastating July floods in Kerrville and surrounding communities.

For ARCS, giving back has become second nature. Since April 2010, the club has hosted a food drive at each of their monthly Fun Fly events, contributing more than 21,653 pounds of food over the years. With every 100 pounds of food feeding a household of eight for two weeks, ARCS has helped provide thousands of nourishing meals for neighbors facing hunger.

Founded in 1967 and chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, ARCS is made up of 135 members—from ages 13 to 82—who share a love of radio-controlled model aircraft. For many, the hobby has served as a gateway to careers in aviation, engineering, mechanics, AI, and computer programming, while others simply enjoy the camaraderie and thrill of flight.

Beyond flying, the club’s generosity soars. ARCS members view their monthly food drives as a way to show appreciation to the San Antonio community for supporting their hobby, while encouraging others to learn more about model aviation.

Interested in experiencing the fun firsthand? Visitors are welcome at ARCS’s Fun Fly, held the Sunday after the third Tuesday of each month. The San Antonio Food Bank extends heartfelt gratitude to ARCS for their ongoing commitment and generosity. Together, we’re nourishing families and strengthening our community—one flight and one meal at a time.
