“I remember when we were younger working hard. It was it can be difficult raising kids and a mortgage. Life can get hard at times. We come every year to the San Antonio Food Bank lobby and donate turkeys. We both used to work for the city of San Antonio but we are retired now.  We wanted to make sure we donated a large 20-pound turkey – we hope it makes a family smile.”

“I am sharing this food to ensure the seniors in my neighborhood have a well-balanced meal this Christmas.

As a senior, the challenges I face relate to my health. This mega food distribution allows me access to the nutritious food I need this holiday season. Thank you, San Antonio Food Bank, for not forgetting seniors in our community.”

“I have no car and it took 3 buses to get here. I was ecstatic to know you take walk-ups at your food distributions. This food literally saves my Christmas and this smile you see is pure joy.

When I am hungry, I sometimes wonder why. I didn’t do anything to deserve this pain. Thank you, thank you, and Merry Christmas.”

Our neighbors entrust us with a great responsibility to share their stories, and we are grateful for their candor and vulnerability. If you would like to learn more about the remarkable people in our neighborhood, you can see even more stories here.

“I came to this distribution with my husband, a disabled military veteran, and my 90-year-old mother-in-law for food to get us through Thanksgiving. After arriving early to wait in line, my 90-year-old mother-in-law had to use the bathroom. As my husband and I guided her to the use the on-site facilities, I saw so many volunteers working hard to organize food and set-up for the turkey distribution. Upon returning back to the truck, I told my husband to go ahead without me so I could stay behind and help. I am in good health, so I can help. The San Antonio Food Bank does so much for me and my family. Without this food, we would go without like we did last Thanksgiving. I am grateful for the Food Bank helping us get through this difficult time.”

“I found everything I need online. How to pick up the boxes, what specific food items to fill the box, and how to return the boxes to help families in need. Once we had the boxes and the need, we both called our friends and family. In 2 weeks, we had 40 boxes filled! It’s an honor to help, especially families during this holiday season.”
