Help Veterans Combat Hunger
In Military City USA, San Antonio stands proud as home to one of the nation’s largest active and retired military populations, with 159,000 veterans in Bexar County alone. Tragically, the hidden face of hunger among those who have served our country often goes unnoticed. Across Southwest Texas, one in five veteran households struggle with food insecurity.
Every week, countless veterans and their families reach out to the San Antonio Food Bank for assistance. While it is our honor to serve those who bravely served our nation, we firmly believe that no veteran or active service member should struggle with hunger. To combat this, we provide food assistance, benefits assistance, job training, and connections to community resources, all aimed at stabilizing our neighbors in need.
Duane, an Army veteran, comes from a long family history of servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our country, exemplifying the hard-working and selfless individuals who defend our freedom. Specializing as a mechanic on armed service vehicles, Duane’s strenuous work eventually led to his honorable discharge from the Army due to prolonged pain from injuries sustained during his service.

Post active service, Duane’s relentless pain limited his ability to work full days as a mechanic. As the struggle to maintain steady employment took its toll, he found himself facing homelessness. For the past year, his 4Runner has been his home. Duane states, “The San Antonio Food Bank is the only help that’s been constant for me…They support me and many other veterans struggling with hunger and
homelessness.”
Military families in our community are turning to the Food Bank in their time of need.
Will you help ensure that these brave service members, like Duane, don’t have to face hunger alone? Every $10 you provide, generates 70 meals for neighbors in need. Together, we can combat hidden hunger across Southwest Texas.
