Annually, March is designated as Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month celebrates all women’s contributions in American history and honors the generations of trailblazing women, girls, and non-binary persons who have built, shaped, and strengthened our communities.

The Association for the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) designates a new theme for Women’s History Month each year. This year’s theme, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” proudly honors those who provide healing and promote hope for the betterment of all.

From the NWHA:
The 2022 Women’s History theme, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.

Every day, women help make our organization and communities a better place with their leadership, strength, and resilience. The San Antonio Food Bank is proud to serve alongside our women hunger fighters and serve our women neighbors.

Women and girls are disproportionately affected by hunger. Yet, we know that women, as mothers and household decision-makers, are also uniquely positioned to help fight against hunger to feed hope to their children and families.

The Food Bank seeks to deepen our understanding and perspective on the triumphs and challenges of those we serve, many of which are rooted in long-standing patterns of social inequities, exclusions, and divisions.

This Women’s History Month, we want to highlight inspiring women who have helped shape the San Antonio Food Bank by being pillars of healing and hope for their families and our community. In doing so, we are sharing the journeys and stories below.
