Thank you Walmart Foundation for funding our SNAP outreach to rural Texas over the last year.

Overall, we were able to complete over 260 application overall including Medicaid, TANF, CHIP, and other federal benefit programs. From the total number, we exceeded our goal of 200 completed SNAP applications from our targeted rural areas. A majority of the completed applications were in the senior population. We have been successful in aiding those in the rural population who are elderly, lack transportation, and have limited knowledge of English and the application process. Through the grant, we have been able to maintain a regular presence in rural communities. Through partnerships with and food distributions, we have been able to reach the desired population that needs federal benefits, such as SNAP.

Another benefit has been in assisting with opening new food pantries, including Eagle Flights Advocacy in Uvalde and First United Methodist in La Salle County. The overall impact has been an increase in SNAP education and applications in the rural communities we targeted and overcoming physical barriers with a greater physical presence, as well as more awareness of our food bank services.
