Ms. Navarro’s Story
More than 200,000 students living in low-income households in the San Antonio area rely on school meal programs for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Our challenge this summer: filling the summer meal gap to secure a nourished and healthy summer for kids and families.
During her 5 years as a teacher, Ms. Navarro has seen and experienced the hardship many of her students face living with food insecurity. “It’s became so apparent to me how important school is for more than just teaching. The food we were handing out may very well have been the only two meals a day that our students were eating.”

Ms. Navarro is hoping the community will come together to help students over the summer. “When children are hungry, it can affect their whole mood, demeanor, and day. Food insecurity shouldn’t have a place in any child’s life.”
The San Antonio Food Bank is working hard to meet this challenge through our Summer Meals for Kids campaign. With your support, we provide no-cost, nutritious meals to kids across the region this summer. Please help get food to kids and their families – so they can eat great and play great this summer.
