Help Secure A Hunger-Free Holiday Season

Leticia’s Story

The holidays are a time when many of us gather around the table with our loved ones to celebrate the season.  However, for many families in our community the holidays can feel overwhelming. In San Antonio, rising housing costs as well as increases in utilities, gas, and groceries have forced many working, low income families to move in together to make ends meet.  With the cost of living so high, many won’t be able to budget the additional funds necessary to provide a holiday meal for their family. With your support, the Food Bank is here to secure a hunger-free holiday for those families.

Leticia was happily married for over 21 years. When her husband died, she promised him she was going to take care of her family until her last breath. To make ends meet, she moved in with her two adult children, their children, and her brother. Although she and her brother are retired, Leticia still wakes up every morning at 5:30 AM to cook breakfast for her family before they leave for work and school. “It’s a pleasure to cook for my family every day. To see my grandkids eat the food I prepared is a blessing to me,” says Leticia.

After spending almost $100 that only filled 3 bags of groceries to feed her household, Leticia knew she and her family needed support. She learned about Food Bank distributions and picks up food once a month for her family. As a loving sister, grandmother, and mother, Leticia wants to ensure her family enjoys a holiday meal prepared by her hands. Thanks to the Food Bank, she will be able to provide a meal made with love for her loved ones. “Every time I go to a food distribution my eyes get watery – I cry because I am overjoyed that a blessing is given to us by people that don’t know us. We are given food, but hope is what we receive – thank you”

With your support, we can help more working families like Leticia’s. Help us secure a hunger-free holiday for our neighbors.

On behalf of all of us at the San Antonio Food Bank, we thank you for your generous support and wish your family a happy holiday season!
