“I recommend that everyone volunteers at the Food Bank farm at least once. It’s a lot of work but you leave feeling like you’ve made a difference. It’s fun and everyone I’ve met so far is great!”

Somewhere on our 24-acre farm, you can spot Angela putting her green thumb to good use. Angela has been volunteering at the Food Bank for a few weeks now.

Originally from Los Angeles, Angela has staying with family in San Antonio as she waits to be reassigned to Cuba for her job in the military. When she noticed she had some free time to share, she decided to spend it at the Food Bank.

“I like working with my hands and getting to be outside,” she says, “This opportunity has been amazing because I’m learning about gardening and helping others.”

The first day Angela volunteered she learned how to plant crops and was assigned to chop cabbage. “When I walked onto the farm, I realized how huge it is and I wasn’t really expecting that.”

Angela wants to start her own garden and feels that this experience has taught her skills that she can apply in her everyday life.
