UTSA – The University of Texas at San Antonio will hold its sixth annual food drive sponsored by Whataburger prior to the Rice football game scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th at the Alamodome

Fans are encouraged to bring cans and non-perishable food items to donation bins that will be located on the VIA bridge on the North side of the Alamodome. Monetary donations also are encouraged and accepted. Every dollar donated provides the equivalent of seven meals. All donations will be given to the #SAFoodBank.

Anyone who donates a minimum of two cans and non-perishable items will receive one coupon for a free Whataburger (while supplies last).

According to the San Antonio Food Bank, nearly one out of every four children and one out of every five adults in Southwest Texas is food insecure and has difficulty meeting basic nutritional needs. Sixty-five percent of the people requesting emergency food have children. UTSA and Whataburger are proud to help fight hunger and encourage fans to donate the gift of food for those in need.

“At Whataburger, helping end hunger in our communities is really important to us, which is why we proudly partner with the San Antonio Food Bank to help them fulfill their local mission year-round,” said Don Hurrell, Whataburger Regional Director of Operations. “The Food Bank does incredible work to help our neighbors in need, and we’re looking forward to partnering with UTSA for this food drive at their upcoming game . Come out and visit us!”
