SAN ANTONIO - The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) has celebrated its 32nd “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive with the largest single-day food drive in the country.

On Saturday, the NALC Alamo Branch 421 asked residents and businesses to donate one pound of non-perishable food per household member to support families in need.

NALC hopes to collect at least 500,000 pounds of food on this year’s drive.

“On May 11, it’s the annual Letter Carrier’s Food Drive, where San Antonio has the opportunity to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank by just setting non-perishable food items at their mailbox,” said Eric Cooper, the CEO of San Antonio Food Bank. “It’s the easiest way to get a non-perishable food item to the food bank.”

The drive will be held on May 11, with mail carriers picking up bags of non-perishable food from homes across San Antonio.

This year's kick-off event on Saturday included members from all of the organizations contributing to the food drive.

Letter carriers across the city will pick up donations for the drive along their mail routes on May 11 as part of the tradition spanning over 30 years, with over 1.8 billion pounds of food collected since the beginning of the event.
