The San Antonio Food Bank is facing a shortage of turkeys on Thanksgiving and Food Bank CEO Eric Cooper is hoping the public can help feed hungry families during the upcoming holiday.

"We have more families requesting turkeys for the holidays than ever," said Cooper in a statement released on Monday. And those requests are in danger or remaining unfulfilled.

How can you help? Cooper says the Food Bank's annuel 5K Turkey Trot, which is held on Thanksgiving morning, is a good way to help hungry families in need.

Each runner's registration is enough to provide a turkey for a family during the holidays. The annual campaign is in its 10th year and about 5,000 runners are expected to participate this year.

"Without runners or walkers on Thanksgiving morning, we won't be able to provide all the turkeys we hope to deliver over the holidays.
