SAN ANTONIO---Summertime is typically the slowest time of year for donations at the San Antonio.

Food Bank, so they’re teaming up with the San Antonio Letter Carriers to help.

The way this is going to work is that when you're shopping over the next couple of weeks you pick up some items that you can donate to the food bank and you put them in a bag and take them out to your mailbox, They'll be picked up and thousands of people that really need the help will get fed.

In a normal week the San Antonio Food Bank provides food assistance to an incredible 58 thousand people. But when school lets out that number grows!

Michael Guerra, the Chief Development for SAFB explains, "200 thousand kids today are getting a free breakfast or lunch at school and it's those 200 thousand kids that are going to face hunger this summer and that we need to go big for."

This is the 28th year the San Antonio Letter Carriers will team up with the food bank in hopes of collecting 1 million pounds of food on Saturday May 11th.

"So Stamp out Hunger is the largest one day food drive in San Antonio and it provides us on that Mother's Day weekend a wave of food so as kids get out of school we'll be able to stock up our food pantry partners all around the community," says Guerra.

Brandyn Rodriguez, a United Way volunteer picking up at the food bank, sees the need everywhere she goes.

"But there are people in our community that truly are in need and we're thankful for the city of San Antonio because we're a giving city and we're able to make a difference by supporting the San Antonio Food Bank and all the families that are in our community."
