The Mobile Pantry is an exciting program offered at the San Antonio Food Bank (SAFB). Started in the summer of 2009, with the support of Kraft Foods, In FY13 the Mobile Pantry distributed over 5.1 million pounds of groceries and food items to over 58,000 individuals. The Mobile Pantry runs daily (Monday – Friday, but is available on select weekends as well) throughout our 16 county service area.
Through a donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation your San Antonio Food Bank will expand the Mobile Pantry Program and continue mobilizing health. The Coca Cola foundation awarded $1.5 Million in grants to get San Antonians Moving. Read more about it here.
On the day of the event, the Mobile Pantry comes filled with a variety of produce, frozen and refrigerated product to provide supplemental food assistance to qualified families and individuals. Each Mobile Pantry vehicle can comfortably provide 200 families with up to 50 pounds of food.
The events, held in partnership with a current member agency, typically last two hours, can be run with as little as 12 volunteers, and provide food assistance to a great number of families. The Mobile Pantry also connects individuals to other SAFB programs including Client Services (Federal Benefit Assistance) and Nutrition, Health and Wellness Education.
With continuing food insecurity and demand for food assistance, the Mobile Pantry allows the SAFB another passage to reach families and individuals in hard to reach areas. The Mobile Pantry provides hungry individuals access to a greater array of fresh, nutritious and healthy products.
