SAN ANTONIO - The Methodist Children’s Hospital is honoring a young patient who touched many lives during his short life.

Rowan Windham was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. He spent more than 1,500 days in the hospital and underwent nearly 100 surgeries. he died when he was 10 from complications.

But while at the hospital, he collected several hundred boxes of cereal to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank and now that effort still moves forward. We were able to speak to his mother who talks about the legacy he left behind.

“Still despite his circumstances always more concerned about other patients, more concerned with other people rather than himself. Of course, when you lose a child it's devastating and you don’t know how to go on but when I see his legacy continue then I know that my life still has purpose keeping his legacy going,” said Carrie Windham.

This year, the goal is to reach 225,000 servings of cereal.
