Maurice’s Story
Honoring Service, Extending Support
October 2025
Across our region, veterans and active military families who honorably served our country face a new unexpected battle—putting food on the table. For 1 in 5 veterans, hunger is a hidden struggle endured long after their service to our nation.
Maurice, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served 15 years during Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, knows this reality all too well. Throughout his military career, Maurice demonstrated resilience, courage, and sacrifice. “I’ve always been proud to serve. When my country needed me, I was there,” he reflects.
“I’ve always been proud to serve. When my country needed me, I was there.”
Maurice and his wife of 20 years are struggling with rising living costs that have stretched their budget thin. The challenges of limited resources make providing consistent, nutritious meals more difficult than it should be.
That’s when Maurice turned to our New Braunfels Food Bank’s Client Choice Pantry—where neighbors can shop with dignity, selecting the foods their families need most. Grateful for the support, Maurice shared, “For me and my family, this connection to the Food Bank is very helpful.”
Sadly, stories like Maurice’s are not unique. Military families, many living on modest incomes and facing frequent relocations, also struggle with hunger. In Texas, 15% of military families face food insecurity, with 9% experiencing severe food insecurity.
That’s why your support is urgently needed. Will you join us in honoring our heroes with a gift today? Every $10 helps provide 70 meals for veterans, military families, and neighbors facing hunger across our community. Together, we can honor their sacrifice by ensuring their tables are full.
