SAN ANTONIO - With the holidays coming up, here is the top food needed by food banks this year: Proteins.

The San Antonio Food Bank has been proactive on this need and has partnered with Trinity Oaks to help put locally harvested venison on the plates of thousands across the region through the "Hunters for the Hungry" program.

"We may not be able to feed every family, but we can make a one-on-one impact to feed a hungry belly by sharing our surplus harvest," said Tom Snyder, co-founder and current President of the Board for Trinity Oaks.

The San Antonio Food Bank will partner with Trinity Oaks in two ways:

  • Using their state of the art venison processing plant to handle larger harvests from ranchers needing to cull their herd.
  • Helping distribute venison to local food pantries within the Food Bank’s 16-county network of Partner Agencies.

“Trinity Oaks is a blessing to so many, both as an outdoor education leader, but also as a first-class processor ready to help set the table for those facing hunger," said Eric Cooper, President and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. "We are extremely excited to grow our Hunters for the Hungry program with the support of Trinity Oaks.”

Trinity Oaks’ mission is to use hunting, fishing and outdoor activities to give back and make a meaningful difference on the lives of others. For decades, we have known of the philosophical shift that outdoor activities cause within those who participate in them and how that profoundly impacts the wellness of our society. Since 2007, we have impacted tens of thousands of people who otherwise would not be able to afford the experience of the outdoors.
