“I feel thankful for everything that’s been donated and I’m glad to be a part of this.”

Victoria and her daughter Anaiya evacuated from their home in Rosenburg, Texas two weeks ago.

They’ve been boarding with relatives in San Antonio while they wait for the water around their home to drain. Victoria felt compelled to help her fellow neighbors in need who could not evacuate their area. When she heard about the opportunity to help with the Food Bank she thought it would be a great learning experience for her 9-year-old daughter.

“We’ve been watching the news and seeing everyone in Houston taking their boats to rescue people, and I thought ‘what could I do to help?’”

Victoria had only planned on staying for a few days but now she does not know when she will be able to return home. She’s waiting for the roads to clear before she attempts their journey.

“We’re keeping up with the weather. We didn’t think it would get this bad. I thought it would be for a few days but now I have no idea when we will go back. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

So far, Anaiya loves putting her hands to work and helping sort donated items with her mom in our warehouse. Victoria credits our staff for making them feel welcomed and for providing a rewarding volunteer experience for her and Anaiya.

“I feel thankful for everything that’s been donated and I’m glad to be a part of this.”

Recently, we’ve had an outpouring of support from native Texans and those from afar. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to transport needed items to those affected by Hurricane Harvey including emergency food boxes, water, blankets, diapers, and clothing.

If you would like to help with Hurricane Harvey efforts, please sign up for a volunteer shift on our site or send the gift of a meal online.
