“My budget is very tight, without these meals we wouldn’t have anything to eat.”

Every day, Ruth and her three grandchildren, Jaden, Sarah, Violet patiently wait in between book shelves for the serving of summer meals.

“We’re here for two hours each day,” says Ruth. She continues, “I bring them to eat and enjoy themselves at the same time. I read books to them and then they get a meal around lunchtime.”

During summer break, Ruth is the caretaker for her grandchildren while their parents are away from work.

She is very appreciative of the summer meals program because her tight budget wouldn’t be able to cover expenses from having three extra mouths to feed. “My budget is very tight, without these meals we wouldn’t have anything to eat.”

The Central Library is one of many summer meal feeding sites that we distribute.
