Steps to Becoming a Partner Agency

Have you always wanted to start a food pantry, or are you already operating one but want to learn more? A partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank is one way to enhance your food program. Take a look at the eligibility requirements and process for becoming a partner to see if this is a good fit for your organization.

Step 1

Partner Agency Orientation Class

Learn about our programs, agency eligibility requirements and the overall application and approval process. During this training we will also discuss how to access product from the San Antonio Food Bank and how to store product and how to determine client eligibility. We will cover best practices keeping in mind the policies and procedures outlined in the Agency Guidebook. You’ll also be given the opportunity to take an application or an interest form. Click to view upcoming training dates.

Open House for Potential Partners

Join us for an open house to learn about how your organization can partner with the San Antonio Food Bank. Staff will be available to provide tours and answer questions about the partner application process.

  • Monday, September 19, 2016 3pm-4:30pm
  • Monday, December 12, 2016 3pm-4:30pm
  • Tuesday, March 7, 2017 3pm-4:30pm

Step 2

Application Process

During this step you will complete/gather the following:

  • Agency Application
  • Copy of 501 c 3 letter from the IRS
  • Photo of the Inside and Outside of your storage area
  • Pest Control Documentation
  • Food Handler’s License (if you are preparing meals)
  • Health Inspection (if you are preparing meals)
  • Food Permit (if you are preparing meals)
  • Foster Care License (for each participating family in the pod)
  • Foster Home Health Inspection (for each participating family)

Step 3

Inspection and Approval

  • Inspection/Site Visit
  • Approval or recommendations for improvements
  • Creating account and agency cards
  • Ordering and picking up product through the warehouse

Step 4

Ongoing Requirements

  • Having new staff of agency trained if there is turn over in management
  • Mandatory attendance of an annual Agency Relations Conference (several are scheduled throughout the year)
  • Renewal of application, pest control and other requested documentation
  • Annual inspection/site visit from the SAFB
  • Mandatory food safety training of at least one volunteer (whether by the San Antonio Food Bank or other service)
