BACK TO KITCHEN TABLE

Clients, whether walk in or call in, will need to schedule a session with one of our Client Service Specialists. During this meeting the clients will have the opportunity to accomplish the following:

  • Fill out a San Antonio Food Bank Intake Form
  • Discuss the family’s needs
  • Sign up for a Nutrition/Cooking Education & Financial Literacy Class
  • Discuss benefit assistance opportunities
  • Learn the Pantry rules & point system
  • Learn of partner program offerings based on need
  • Tour The Kitchen Table

Each Client must fill out a self-declaration form and must fall at or below 185 percent of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines prior to engaging in services. Once approved they will be encouraged to participate in nutrition education classes, cooking classes, budgeting or financial literacy classes and an orientation on how our Client Choice Pantry system works. Clients will be able to earn more points (meaning the opportunity to access more food) with each class they are able to complete.

The Point System

The Point System is based on what the items would cost if you actually had to buy them at the local grocery store. Items are colored coded to determine the point value using dot stickers of different colors. An example of point values are listed below:

  • $.50-$1.00 1 point Red sticker
  • $1.05- $2.00 2 points Blue sticker
  • $2.05- $3.00 3 points Yellow sticker

A total dollar amount for each family is determined by pricing a regular poundage amount for that size family. If a family of two had a poundage amount of 17 pounds and that poundage translated into a monetary value of $40, then the family would be able to spend 40 points in the pantry. This process also assists in our efforts to educate each family on budgeting needs and fiscal responsibility.
