Joining the San Antonio Food Bank as a Member Agency

Super Pantry, Emergency Food Pantries, Food Pantry, Closed Site Food Pantry, Food Fair Sites

Operated by churches or charitable non-profit social service agencies

Specific Requirements:

  • A valid 501(c)(3) or sponsorship of an established church or 501 c 3 organization
  • Pest Control Documentation
  • The Emergency Food Pantry cannot be located in a private residence
  • Agency Orientation and Training and other Training as specified by the SAFB, if necessary
  • A food pantry worker or volunteer must be able to conduct a brief, polite, non-judgmental client intake and complete the required SAFB documentation
  • A food pantry worker or volunteer must promptly and accurately report the number of individuals served by means of a short, simple monthly Food Bank report

Congregate Feeding Sites

Shelters, Soup Kitchens, Group Homes, Non-Profit Daycares, Foster Programs, Foster Care Shelters / Residential

Specific Requirements:

  • A valid 501(c)(3) or sponsorship of an established church or 501 c 3 organization
  • Pest control Documentation
  • An employee or staff volunteer must promptly and accurately report the number of individuals served by means of a short, simple monthly Food Bank report
  • The agency must have and maintain all applicable licenses:
    • Current health department inspection
    • Certificate of occupancy (where applicable)
    • Daycare licensing (were applicable)
    • Food handlers permit (were applicable)

Animal and Wildlife Pantry, Non-Food Pantry, Seasonal Partners

Operated by churches or charitable non-profit social service agencies

Specific Requirements:

  • A valid 501(c)(3) or sponsorship of an established church or 501 c 3 organization
  • Pest Control Documentation
  • The Pantry cannot be located in a private residence
  • Agency Orientation and Training and other Training as specified by the SAFB, if necessary
  • A food pantry worker or volunteer must be able to conduct a brief, polite, non-judgmental client intake and complete the required SAFB documentation
  • A food pantry worker or volunteer must promptly and accurately report the number of individuals served by means of a short, simple monthly Food Bank report
  • Agency must maintain all specified agency requirements based on the services and population they offer as specified by SAFB
     

San Antonio Food Bank member agencies are also expected to maintain clean, dry, secure storage and service area for food and products.

  • Food must be stored at least six inches above the floor, in a clean, dry place that can be secured with a lock to prevent theft. Food and products should be regularly inspected for signs of spoilage; pantries should be monitored for signs of insects or rodents.

Member agencies with the San Antonio Food Bank are expected to treat clients fairly, without discrimination or prejudice.

  • There may be no exclusion of services based on race, appearance, age, religion, national origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or political affiliation of an individual.
  • If an agency serves a specific clientele, (For example: a senior citizen nutrition site, or a daycare) that agency must have specific criteria outlining who will be served, and must apply those criteria equally to all applicable clientele.
