Mobile Pantry Volunteer
Where: In and around the San Antonio area
When: Time and days vary, mostly during the weekdays. Events in Bexar County normally last 4 hours.
Who: Individuals/Groups of 10 or less volunteers
Age Requirement: 18 years of age
Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. These events are outside so ìdress for the weatherî. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.
Job Descriptions: Assist the Mobile Pantry Coordinator (MPC) by breaking down pallets of product, bagging if necessary and handing out product to clients. This includes cleaning up the area and stacking pallets and trash into truck. Volunteers will also collect vouchers from clients and help with traffic control. Verifying clients have vouchers before receiving product, if a client does not have a voucher then qualifying client and assisting them with voucher.
Agency Store Volunteer
Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Friday: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Hours may be flexible due to volunteer needs.
Who: Individuals
Age requirement: 14 years of age
Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.
Job Description: Assist Agency Relations staff in restocking and arranging edible and non-edible food items. Checking dates as instructed. Other warehouse duties include, but not limited to: sweeping, trash pick up, mopping and general clean-up of work areas.
Nutrition
Nutrition Team Volunteer
Where: San Antonio Food Bank and locations in and around San Antonio
When: Monday - Saturday: 2 to 4 hours per week. Hours can be flexible due to volunteer needs.
Who: Individuals
Age requirement: 14 years of age
Job Description: Assist SAFB Nutrition Education staff with a variety of tasks, including class preparation, class assistance and clerical work. Opportunities are available to assist at health fairs around the community.
Community Garden
Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00 PM
Who: Individuals and Groups of up to 30 volunteers
Age requirement: 8 years of age
Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. Dress for the weather. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.
Job Description: Assist with the planting, caring for and gleaning of fruits, vegetables and other edible plants. Help with the construction of square foot gardening boxes, raised beds, trellises, walking paths and assist with general maintenance of existing structures. Duties may include composting, weeding, digging, planting, watering and/or hoeing.
Please Note: Some water is provided. Volunteer sessions could be cancelled, should a cancellation occur we will attempt to provide another volunteer opportunity. Individual’s sensitive to bee stings should not volunteer in the garden.

Warehouse
Warehouse Sorting and Packing Volunteer
Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Saturday
Shift 1: 9:00 AM to 12 PM
Shift 2: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
When: Second Wednesday of every month
Shift 3: 5:30 PM to 8 PM
Who: Individuals and groups of up to 50 volunteers on weekdays and up to 150 volunteers on Saturdays
Age requirement: 8 years of age
Dress Code:Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.
Job Description: Sorting salvaged edible and non-edible food products and placing them in appropriate bins or boxes. Checking for signs of contamination, rodent or insect infestation, unknown spills on the product and/or rotten smells. Assist in checking dates of product as instructed. Other warehouse duties include, but not limited to: sweeping, trash pick up, mopping and general clean-up of work areas.

Kids Cafe

Who: Individuals and Groups of up to 20 volunteers
Age requirement: 8 years of age
Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a kitchen environment.
Job Description: Receive briefing on the day's meal(s) to be distributed to Kids Cafe sites; issue and document Kids Cafe meals, load meals into hot/cold holding containers; accurately document times that meals were picked-up, equipment was returned and issued; wash, clean, sanitize & store kitchen tools, containers & equipment. Pre-prep as needed for next day's meal; sweep, mop and store supplies as needed. Assist with general pick-up/clean-up as needed & requested by Executive Chef.

Haven for Hope

Who: Individuals/Groups of up to 20 volunteers
Age requirement: 15 years of age
Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a kitchen environment.
Job Description: Assist with the preparation and serving of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for residents of Haven for Hope. Other kitchen duties include, but not limited to: All aspects of kitchen clean up e.g. dishwashing, sweeping, mopping. Volunteers will also greet the residents as they arrive for their meals.

Job Description: A variety of administrative tasks including, but not limited to: internet research, letter folding, stapling pamphlets, data entry and/or answering phones.
Property Beautification Volunteers

When: First and Second Saturday of every month
Who: Individuals/Groups of 10 or less volunteers
Age requirement: 18 years of age

Job Description: Assist with the continued beautification of the San Antonio Food Bank property by planting seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools. Assist with established lawn care such as mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls. Occasionally assist with painting of exterior and interiors walls.
APPLE CORP-Volunteer Leadership Opportunities

Who: Individuals, all volunteers require prescreening by the VC prior to volunteering.
Job Description: On a daily basis, teaching, leading and mentoring volunteers for groups of up to 40. Provide general and accurate information about the Food Bank, promote programs and policies. This position requires an outgoing personality and experience working with diverse populations including persons with special needs. Excellent verbal and motivational communication skills are needed. A willingness to speak in public and must be professional at all times. A basic understanding of the principles of volunteer management is helpful. To be considered a Team Lead, a volunteer must first volunteer twice a week for a period of 2 months. This opportunity is perfect for retirees.
