5 Easy Steps to a Successful Food & Fund Drive

1. Download our Food & Fund Coordinators Manual and register your food drive.

Please complete the Food & Fund Drive Registration form located here. Once you have submitted your registration form, the Food & Fund Drive Coordinator will contact you to help plan further details of your drive or event.

2. Gather food boxes and containers.

Printing paper boxes work really well for Food & Fund Drives. You can go to local copy/print shops and ask for the boxes. They are sturdy and still manageable when filled with food, plus you can have fun with decorations. The San Antonio Food Bank can provide barrels for food collection. We ask Food & Fund Drive organizers to limit barrel requests to large food drive events where more than one barrel is necessary as we have a limited number of barrels.

3. Start early and promote.

Share information throughout your organization and community to raise involvement early in the process. Make posters, flyers and signs to promote your drive, we also have our 12 Most Wanted Poster located here and a Food Drive Customizable sign here.

4. Set up a central location.

Collection sites should be visible and easy to find. Collect donated food and grocery items at central locations like break rooms, common meeting rooms and reception areas. Assign one or two individuals to be responsible for collecting financial contributions. Make all checks payable to the San Antonio Food Bank. If you are using a virtual drive, share the link.

5. Schedule barrel delivery/pickups or food drop-offs.

Contact to swap full barrels during the drive or to pick up barrels at the end of the drive. Our drivers make pick-ups and deliveries between 8am and 3pm, Monday through Friday. Please call at least 72 hours in advance. Please note that we cannot assure a specific time of barrel drop-off or pick-up. Transportation requests may be subject to weather or driver availability. (Please allow additional time during the holiday season.) If barrels were not used, you can schedule a drop off at the Food Bank. Food can be dropped off Monday through Thursday, 8am-5pm and Fridays, 8am-4:30pm. When you deliver your collected donations, you help us keep overhead costs low!

Virtual Food DriveVirtual Food Drive

A convenient, hassle-free way to help with a click of a mouse. Food drives are a wonderful way to get needed food to the hungry men, women and children of Southwest Texas. But not every workplace has the necessary storage, equipment or on-site employees to make it work.

With easy-to-use technology, the SAFB can help your workplace organize a Virtual Food Drive with fun, point-and-click simplicity similar to online shopping. Transactions can be completed within minutes. Donors may use any major credit card for payment on a secure site and receive an e-receipt immediately. To encourage participation, you can even arrange a friendly Virtual Food Drive competition with another department, office location or rival company.

SAFB staff can help you set-up your Virtual Food Drive, which employees access by clicking on a link in a company distributed e-mail. Each Virtual Food Drive can be customized with your company's logo. The program administrator can track the progress of the Virtual Food Drive in real-time and send out updates.

Through a Virtual Food Drive you will be able to make monetary donations to the SAFB. This gets more meals to the hungry faster and with less expense. The SAFB can turn a $1 donation into seven meals! For more information, contact Kali Scheben via email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
